Auburn opens as a slight favorite over Kentucky
The majority of the fans in Commonwealth Stadium will be cheering for Kentucky when Auburn visits on Thursday night, but for now the oddsmakers are on Auburn’s side.
The Tigers are currently 2-point favorites over the Wildcats, according to VegasInsider.com. Some sportsbooks have Auburn as a 2.5-point favorite.
Both teams enter the game unranked nationally, but this is a crucial game for the conference standings.
Auburn (3-2, 0-2 SEC) is currently last in the SEC West. Another loss on Thursday puts a dagger in the Tigers’ slim chances to make a late push to win the division.
For Kentucky, who is second in the SEC East, a golden opportunity presented itself on Monday with the suspension of Florida starting quarterback Will Grier.
The Wildcats have already lost to Florida (6-0, 4-0 SEC) this season, but a win against Auburn will give the Wildcats some separation from the teams chasing them in the standings.
Auburn’s Gus Malzahn on Kentucky game: "It's a game we need to win and our guys understand that. We're playing a very good team."
