Auburn has overtaken Georgia for one of Alabama’s top prospects.
After naming the Kirby Smart-led Bulldogs his leader just weeks ago, three-star linebacker Kenney Britt made an addendum to his list of top schools.
For now, the Tigers are his front-runner, Britt confirmed to SEC Country. The news comes on the heels of Britt’s most recent visit to Auburn. Following his visit to Athens for Georgia’s highly anticipated spring game, the Oxford, Ala., native stopped by the Plains to meet with Gus Malzahn.
Britt has regularly visited Auburn in recent weeks: After the Tigers offered him in February, the rising senior saw his recruitment pick up considerably. He reeled in offers from Michigan, Florida and, of course, Georgia.
“From teams just throwing offers to now being a school’s top priority … I’ve had a few SEC offers, but they never got back to me,” Britt recently told SEC Country of his recruitment. “Now schools are telling me I’m a top priority. It’s eye-opening.”
The 6-foot, 232-pound prospect unveiled a list of top schools shortly after he picked up a wave of scholarship offers. All things considered, however, it will likely boil down to Auburn and Georgia in the end.
Early playing time, paired with his relationship with Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams has made the Tigers an appealing option for Britt.
“I love Auburn. I really do,” he said in a recent interview. “It’s like a home away from home. (Linebackers) Coach Williams treats me like a priority. (Defensive line) Coach (Rodney) Garner, (defensive coordinator Kevin) Steele, Coach (Gus) Malzahn. I definitely love it at Auburn.”
Britt plans on announcing his decision in August.
