That might not always be the case.
Azeez Ojulari is one of the most sought-after prospects in the Southeast. Since the beginning of April, he picked up offers from a who’s who of college blue bloods. Notre Dame, Tennessee, Alabama, Clemson and in-state Georgia are all hot after him. A 3-star prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings, Azeez has 28 verbal offers from across the nation. He is 6-foot-4, 225 pounds.
B.J. Ojulari is beginning to gain on his brother. Already measuring 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, he has offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, TCU and Syracuse. The first four teams also offered Azeez. It’s likely the brothers will have similar offer lists.
“I don’t know if he’s trying to go to the same place,” Azeez told SEC Country on Monday. “I think he wants to go somewhere else and play against me, or something like that.”
The whole exchange was said with a sly grin, and there’s a possibility the Ojulari brothers end up on the same team. Azeez said he hoped to make a decision either “midway through the season or after the season.” At this point, Azeez said he has been in contact the most with South Carolina, Clemson, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
Maybe in a few years, we’ll get to see Ojulari vs. Ojulari. It could even be in an SEC game — Georgia vs. Auburn, hypothetically.
Should that happen, Azeez said it will be the first time the brothers go head-to-head.
“I know it’s going to be highly competitive,” Azeez said of the possible matchup.
Harrison Bailey is the next Trevor Lawrence
The 2018 recruiting class includes a bumper crop of quarterbacks in the state of Georgia. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Emory Jones are among the top five quarterbacks in the nation, and all hail from the Peach State.
The Next Big Georgia Quarterback might be in Marietta.
Harrison Bailey, a rising sophomore, already has 13 offers after throwing for more than 2,800 yards with 21 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 2016.
Yes, that was his freshman season.
Georgia, Florida and Alabama are among the biggest offers for Bailey, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound pro-style quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class. On Monday, coaches from Oklahoma, West Virginia and Southern Cal all stopped by to watch him and his teammates. Oklahoma has offered; Southern Cal and West Virginia are likely close to doing so.
Bailey said he heard the most from Clemson, Florida, Florida State and Georgia.
It’s a long way to any decision, but Bailey said location and coaching staff will be factors, as well his intended major: broadcast news.
2019 WR Ramel Keyton‘s offer list continues to grow
Marietta also has one of the top young receivers in Georgia: Ramel Keyton, a rising junior.
Keyton, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete, is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings. He has 13 verbal offers with a heavy SEC presence: Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
“I’ve been in contact with Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Miami, too,” Keyton said, naming the schools he heard from the most recently.
He has already visited Georgia, Florida and Tennessee, and said he “thinks” he’ll visit Georgia again on June 1.
All interviews were conducted by SEC Country videographer Nate Gettleman.
