The game between Ole Miss and Alabama will not be the only rivalry on the field Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. When Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly lines up under center for his team’s first drive, he will recognize a familiar face across from him.
Kelly and Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland met before their senior seasons of high school at The Opening recruiting camp in Oregon. The two have remained close the last several years, but despite their friendship, Ragland plans to get even with his buddy.
“I remember playing against him in the Under Armor Game, and he got me too,” Ragland told Marq Burnett of The Anniston Star. “Yeah he got me. He shook me a little bit, I ain’t going to lie about that so I got to come back and get him or try to at least.”
Ironically, Ragland and Kelly were nearly college teammates. Alabama recruited Kelly out of high school and then again after his season at East Mississippi Community College last year. Ragland even tried to persuade Kelly to join the Crimson Tide before he chose the Rebels.
“I tried to get him to come here, but he’s at Ole Miss now so I got to line up against him and play my game,” Ragland said to Alex Byinton of the Montgomery Advertiser. “It’s going to be a fun matchup.”
