Christian Laettner has chimed in after Kentucky’s heartbreaking loss to North Carolina.
The Wildcats and Tar Heels took part in an epic South Region final on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn. Unfortunately for Kentucky fans, North Carolina won 75-73 after Luke Maye, wearing a No. 32 jersey like Laettner did during his Duke days, swished a game-winning shot to put the Tar Heels in the Final Four.
Early Monday, Laettner took to Twitter to congratulate Maye and give Kentucky a little ribbing.

Of course, Laettner is known for hitting “The Shot” to beat Kentucky in an NCAA Tournament classic 25 years ago. That moment stands as one of the proudest for Laettner in his basketball career. Some Wildcats fans might have felt similar heartbreak Sunday after a game that featured so many wild emotional swings.
Is there something to opponents in No. 32 jerseys hitting clutch shots against Kentucky? It’s pure coincidence, but it’s interesting that Laettner can have this unique bond with Maye. Sunday’s events are a rough memory for Wildcats fans, but it’s pretty cool that Laettner took to Twitter to congratulate the player.
Kentucky finished the season with a 32-6 record.
