Clemson LB Ben Boulware may rub SEC people– particularly Alabama and South Carolina fans– the wrong way. He’s outspoken and he utilizes questionable on-field tactics at times, but you have to tip your cap to the Tigers defender on this one.
In the days following Clemson’s 35-31 victory against Alabama in the College Football Playoff national title game, Boulware decided that he would get a tattoo to commemorate the remarkable achievement. Nothing terribly unusual about that.
But what was notable is the reason for the location of the tattoo.
On Tuesday, Boulware tweeted a picture of his new tattoo along with a message to ESPN College GameDay’s Desmond Howard.
In what appears to be a transcript of Howard analyzing Clemson’s defense’s ability to stop the run, Howard said the following about the Tigers defense in advance of the title game: “I think their Achilles heel may be their linebackers. They are good straight ahead, but as far as east and west, sideline to sideline, Dalvin Cook turned the corner whenever he wanted to against that defense. I need to see the linebackers play a little better, too.”
In a sly response to that remark, Boulware had the College Football Playoff trophy tattooed on his Achilles heel. And then he messaged Howard to let him know he was listening:
