Christian Kirk took the nation by storm as true freshman at Texas A&M.
So, who will be this year’s Christian Kirk?
FOXSports.com’s Bruce Feldman surveyed 35 college football coaches about some of the nation’s top prospects most likely to make an instant impact. Not surprisingly, a majority of the prospects — both commits or targets — had ties to the SEC.
Eight college coaches voted that Rashan Gary will have the greatest impact as a true freshman. That should not come as too much of surprise considering the 6-foot-5, 293-pound defensive tackle is the nation’s No. 1 player.
Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss are among the six finalists attempting to land Gary, whose is being regarded as an instant-impact player.
“This is a really good defensive line class and he is head and shoulders above every other D-lineman in this class,” one coach told Feldman. “He’s 300 pounds and he moves well enough, he can play end. He’s great with his hands. He’s strong. He’s been very well-coached and has had a great high school D-line coach. Rashan Gary is the Leonard Fournette of this class.”
Ole Miss offensive tackle commit Greg Little received more than two votes, and he will have a chance to back up that sentiment as he tries to secure a spot on the Rebels’ offensive line, which is set to lose both of their starting tackles from 2015.
That includes likely first-round pick Laremy Tunsil.
“He is just so polished. He has excellent feet and excellent technique,” an SEC coach told Feldman.
UGA quarterback commit Jacob Eason, Alabama offensive tackle commit Jonah Williams and LSU wide receiver commit Drake Davis also drew rave reviews.
The three prospects were among the top six vote-getters.
Additionally, five other prospects received at least one vote. That includes wide receiver A.J. Brown, who’s considering Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama; Raekwon Davis, an Alabama defensive lineman commit; athlete Jack Jones, who’s considering Texas A&M and Alabama, among others; Kendell Jones, an Alabama defensive tackle commit; and Demetris Robertson, a cornerback/receiver that’s considering both UGA and Alabama, among others.
