College Football Playoff rankings released: 4 SEC teams ranked in Top 25
The third edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday and four SEC teams landed in the Top 25.
The top four teams remained unchanged from a week ago with Clemson keeping hold of the No. 1 spot. Alabama (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 3) and Notre Dame (No. 4) rounded out the coveted top four spots. If the season ended Tuesday, these four teams would make up the second Playoff bracket.
The Crimson Tide remained as the SEC’s top-ranked team following yet another dominating performance over the weekend. Alabama took down Mississippi State, 31-6, last Saturday and will finish out the season with Charleston Southern and Auburn.
Florida, not LSU, was the conference’s second-ranked team this week after a 24-14 win over South Carolina last Saturday. The Gators came in at No. 8 and now await their SEC championship opponent after finishing SEC East play undefeated.
After starting at No. 2 in the initial 2015 College Football Playoff rankings, LSU’s ranking dropped for the second straight week. The Tigers ended up at No. 15 this week following a disappointing loss to Arkansas over the weekend. The defeat marked the second season in a row that LSU dropped back-to-back games to Alabama and Arkansas in consecutive weeks.
Ole Miss (No. 22) was back in the Top 25 this week after a bye over the weekend, while Mississippi State dropped out of the top 25 following the loss to Alabama.
