The fourth edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday and there was a new top four.
Clemson remained as the nation’s top-ranked team with Alabama claiming the No. 2 spot. Following Ohio State’s loss to Michigan State over the weekend, Oklahoma took over the No. 3 spot, while Iowa (No. 4) rounded out the coveted top four spots. If the season ended Tuesday, these four teams would make up the second Playoff bracket.
The Crimson Tide remained as the SEC’s top-ranked team this week after a 56-6 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday. Alabama will play Auburn this weekend, and with a win will meet Florida in the SEC Championship on Dec. 5 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The Gators, who needed overtime to beat Florida Atlantic over the weekend, came in at No. 12 this week. Florida will close out the regular season with Florida State Saturday in a game that could hold major Playoff implications for the Gators.
Ole Miss moved up from No. 22 to No. 18 following its 38-17 win over LSU on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Tigers fell out of the College Football Playoff rankings after losing their third consecutive game.
Mississippi State (No. 21) re-entered the Top 25 after its thrilling 51-50 win over Arkansas this past weekend. The Bulldogs will face off against Ole Miss this Saturday for their annual Egg Bowl rivalry game.
