College football rankings: AP Poll Top 25 features 4 SEC teams after Week 7

The latest AP Top 25 was released by the Associated Press on Sunday after Week 7 games. Four SEC teams were listed in the Top 25 after the seventh full weekend of the 2017 football season.

Alabama remained the SEC’s top team following a convincing win against Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night. The Crimson Tide collected all 61 first-place votes and sits comfortable atop the college football throne after Week 7.

Georgia continued to impress on the national stage as the Bulldogs took care of business against Missouri at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs moved up to the No. 3 spot thanks to the 7-0 start, and will now have a bye week to ready themselves for the annual clash with Florida in Week 9.

Clemson’s Friday night loss at Syracuse stands to benefit both the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs in the long-term view of this poll. The Tigers dropped to No. 7 as a result of the loss.

One team that did not benefit from the Clemson loss was Auburn, which dropped its own game against LSU in Baton Rouge on Saturday afternoon after holding a 20-0 lead. Auburn fell 11 spots from No. 10 to No. 21 after the loss.

On the LSU side of that rivalry, Ed Orgeron has steered the Tigers back in the right direction with back-to-back conference wins against ranked opponents after dropping a home game to Troy in Week 5. The Tigers jumped back into the Top 25 this week, settling in at No. 24.

AP POLL HISTORY: PRESEASON | WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4 | WEEK 5 | WEEK 6

The Associated Press began its college football poll on Oct. 19, 1936, and it is now the longest-running poll of those that award national titles at the end of the season. The preseason poll was started in 1950. Sixty-one members vote in the poll each week.

The 2017 preseason AP Poll placed the Crimson Tide as the top SEC team at No. 1, Auburn at No. 12, LSU at No. 13, Georgia at No. 15, Florida at No. 17 and Tennessee at No. 25.
