FOX Sports personality Clay Travis can rub some people the wrong way sometimes. And apparently, he did just that to Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre during a Thursday morning radio interview.
Travis was speaking to the Buffaloes coach, who lost to Washington in the Pac-12 championship game earlier this month, about a variety of college football issues.
After dodging a few questions about the ongoing “WakeyLeaks” scandal, Travis asked MacIntyre just how good Washington is in the fallout of a 41-10 win against MacIntyre’s Colorado team in the Pac-12 title game on Dec. 2.
“They’re a good football team. We had a few turnovers that made the game separate more than it (should have),” MacIntyre said. “I’d like to play them again and see what happens, but we don’t get that chance.”
Travis followed that question with one on whether MacIntyre, who is the son of former Vanderbilt coach George MacIntyre, would be surprised if the Huskies beat the Crimson Tide.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if they beat Alabama,” MacIntyre responded. “On those one-night given games you never know what happens. And I think they’re very talented. They’ve got good speed at receiver, their running backs are good, their offensive line is good. Their defensive interior line is physical and powerful, they’ve got good cover corners and even their safeties can cover well. And then they’ve got a quarterback who was one of the guys up for the Heisman for a while. I think they’re a good football team and Coach Petersen is an excellent coach.”
Things went downhill quickly from there, as Travis tried to get into a discussion about potential coaching opportunities for MacIntyre, who has been linked to the NFL by Sports Illustrated’s Peter King.
When Travis asked him directly if he had been contacted about other coaching jobs, MacIntyre lost his cool. Here’s the exchange:
Travis: “Did you or your agent receive any calls about any jobs after this off-season?”
MacIntyre: “I have no comment on any of that.”
Travis: “So that means ‘yes.'”
MacIntyre: “No, I have no comment. I really didn’t want to get into any of this. So I’ll talk to you later. Appreciate it. Bye, bye.”
Travis: “Wow! Did he just hang up on us?!? That is unprecedented! Was I wrong? Did I do anything wrong there? I thought he was a fairly nice guy… he got rattled. I’m not going to ask him about the Alamo Bowl. Nobody cares about the Alamo bowl.”
You can listen to the entire exchange below. The interview begins around the 100 minute mark on the recording.
