Last month, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said he planned to run the Boston Marathon for on April 18. On Saturday, he announced that he’ll be making the 26.2-mile trek as a fundraiser for the Mullen Family Foundation, which contributes to 36 charities that help kids in Mississippi.
“With a goal to support children, Dan has been training a year now to run the Boston Marathon — a lifelong dream of his, and his first race ever,” Mullen and his wife, Megan, wrote on the foundation’s website.
According to Michael Bonner of The Clarion-Ledger, Mullen already has collected more than $14,000 for the cause and hopes to raise $36,000 overall.
Mullen also said supporters will be able to track his progress throughout the race, adding that Ole Miss fans can do the same and cheer the pain on his face at Miles 21-26.
