With less than 10 weeks until the first college football Saturday, it’s almost preseason poll time for various media and outlets across the country.
What better time than now to look back at the worst predictions from the past 67 years?
SB Nation’s Jason Kirk broke down every season’s most overrated team dating back to the beginning of the preseason AP poll in 1950.
In total, 11 SEC teams made the list and one team — Auburn — appeared a league-leading four times. Also featured is Arkansas (3), Alabama (2), Florida, (2), Tennessee (2), Texas A&M (2), Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
However, each season from Texas A&M (2011, 1996), Missouri (1970) and Arkansas (1972, 1980, 1990) occurred before those schools joined the SEC.
While the Crimson Tide appear on this list twice, their last showing was in 2000, several years before Nick Saban turned them into college football’s premier power.
The 2017 preseason AP poll should be released in August.
