There are some striking similarities between the Troy and Ohio football programs.
For starters, each has put together successful seasons overall, but lost their last game before earning a berth to the Dollar General Bowl.
Now the Trojans (9-3) and the Bobcats (8-5) will try to finish their seasons off with a win in Mobile, Ala. It looks like this contest will be a defensive battle. Both kept opponents from scoring more than 23 points throughout the year. And in several ways, the teams’ offensive games are similar as well.

Dollar General Bowl: Ohio vs. Troy keys to the game
- Shutting down the air attack
Troy was a co-champion of the Sun Belt Conference while Ohio ruled the East Division of the MAC. Both were able to reach the top of their respective conferences through their dynamic air attack. Whichever defense can stop its opponent from executing in the red zone might come out on top. Troy has a slight edge with quarterback Brandon Silvers. The junior threw for 2,945 yards and 22 TDs, improving upon his 2015 season.
2. Slowing it down
Ohio, who is the lesser talented offensive team, will have an edge if the Bobcats can dictate the pace in this game. Linebacker Blair Brown will be a huge part of that plan. Brown will run the show and if he gets a physical Ohio team off to a good start, his team has a chance to win.
