The matchup between Florida and LSU on Saturday has an added level of intrigue with Purdue transfer quarterbacks Austin Appleby and Danny Etling going against each other.
That has caught the eye of New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, a former Boilermaker himself, who told WVUE FOX 8’s Sean Fazende that he had plans to keep up with the former Purdue quarterbacks on Saturday.

Etling has been solid for LSU this season, starting eight of nine games with 1,378 yards and a 128.79 rating. Since the firing of Les Miles, Etling and the Tigers are 4-1 with the only loss coming to No. 1 Alabama.
Abbleby, on the other hand, has seen less playing time behind starter Luke Del Rio. However, with Del Rio out “a while” with a shoulder injury, according to head coach Jim McElwain, Appleby will take the reins of the Gators offense. In five games, Appleby has thrown for 671 yards and completed 65.6 percent of his passes.
Neither quarterback had significant playing time with the Boilermakers. Etling played in 13 games, eight of which came his freshman season in 2013, and threw for 2,490 yards. Appleby was with Purdue each of the last three years, playing in 17 games and throwing for 2,777 yards.
Brees, of course, is the most successful quarterback in Purdue history. He holds the record for most passing yards in a career with 11,792 and most career touchdown passes with 90, 19 more than the next highest total. Brees currently leads active NFL quarterbacks with 63,894 passing yards, more than 4,000 ahead of New England Patriots QB Tom Brady.
