Leave it to drunk SEC fans to give Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy a little good-natured ribbing about his epic “I’m a man” rant.
Speaking at Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday, Gundy reflected on the upcoming 10-year anniversary of his rant that made him a national sensation. In the rant, Gundy defended then-Cowboys quarterback Bobby Reid, who was the subject of a critical column by The Oklahoman’s Jenni Carlson.
Turns out, there was an SEC tie when Gundy revisited the wild moment.
As relayed by USA Today’s George Schroeder, Gundy said a pair of drunk SEC fans reminded him of the incident recently at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
Gundy said while attending a College World Series game earlier this summer, an LSU and a Florida fan heckled him good-naturedly about the rant.
“They were having a good time with it,” he said. “I took pictures with him. They were 20 to 30 beers over the limit. That’s the only time I’ve heard it in the last few years.”
Leave it to a few “excited” SEC fans to do this, right?
You have to love this story. For some, Gundy always will be associated with the rant. So it’s best he plays along and smiles whenever someone brings it up.
