Elite New Orleans pass-rusher and LSU target Sci Martin is on commitment watch, but don’t expect a decision to come today.
The three-star weakside defensive end has made up his mind, but will not announce his college choice today as expected.
Instead, Louisiana’s No. 26 prospect in the Class of 2016 — who is choosing from LSU, Alabama and TCU — will make his decision known sometime during the upcoming week, he told SEC Country.
The timeline is on par with what Martin’s coach originally told SEC Country last week.
Martin also told SEC Country that the reports that he has plans to take an unofficial visit to LSU before he signs his letter of intent are not true. He confirmed that he has not been to Baton Rouge, La., for a visit since his official in January.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect out of McDonogh 35 Senior High School (New Orleans) took an official visit to LSU on Jan. 22, a week after traveling to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for an official visit.
Martin had been committed to the Horned Frogs dating back to December, but opted not to sign his letter of intent last month on National Signing Day.
After taking officials to both Alabama and LSU, he received in-home visits from Tigers coach Les Miles and Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban in the week leading up to signing day.
In the aftermath of his visit to LSU, Martin told SEC Country that Tigers defensive line coach Ed Orgeron made a major plea to keep the pass-rusher in The Boot.
However, Martin said that TCU remained his leading school ahead of LSU.
At this point, signs point to Martin either sticking with the Horned Frogs or flipping to the in-state Tigers.
