Georgia’s hiring of former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart appears to already be paying dividends on the recruiting trail.
For 5-star William Poole, it is the announcement he’s been patiently waiting for.
“The hiring of coach (Kirby) Smart is the news I’ve been waiting for,” Poole told SEC Country. “The guy is a defensive mastermind and he’s been under the best coach in the nation (Nick Saban). I’m sure he’ll know how to run it and get things done. The future is bright for UGA. I see national championships coming.”
Poole, one of the top recruits at his position in 2017, has reported close to 40 offers and is considering the Bulldogs, among other schools. The 6-foot, 170-pound junior from Atlanta, Ga., is projected to remain in-state, per 247Sports.com’s Crystal Ball predictions.
He is rated as the No. 12 player in Georgia in next year’s recruiting cycle.
