Would you prefer a contest with a lot of points scored or a tight game?
It’s generally the latter when two SEC teams get together, but ESPN thinks that four SEC teams are in for some blowout wins this season. Sharon Katz of ESPN Analytics predicted the point differential for teams around the country and Tennessee, LSU, Alabama and Georgia all made the top 10.
Tennessee was projected to have a point differential of 18.3, which was good for fourth on the list. ESPN’s analytics project the Vols to win five games by at least 21 games, including Tennessee Tech, Ohio, Appalachian State, Kentucky and Missouri.
LSU was next on the list at No. 5 with a point differential of 18. In its non-conference games against Wisconsin (favored by 14), Southern Miss (34), Jacksonville State (38) and South Alabama (45), the Tigers are projected to win by an average of 33 points.
Georgia may be the biggest surprised on this list given Nick Chubb’s health concerns and lack of a starting quarterback, but the Bulldogs came in at No. 9. ESPN made sure to point out that the numbers are skewed because of a Week 2 meeting with Nicholls State, which the Bulldogs are projected to win by an average of 59 points. Either way, the analytics project Georgia to have a point differential of 13.7.
Last but not least, the defending national champions. Alabama finished No. 10 on the list with a point differential of 13.3 with big wins coming against Chattanooga, Kent State, Western Kentucky and Kentucky.
