ESPN’s Peter Burns unleashes fresh SEC QB power rankings
Hope springs eternal for SEC fan bases and their quarterback situation during spring practice. And while the real critique for most fans doesn’t come until live bullets start flying in the fall, ESPN’s Peter Burns is here to give us his take on how things are progressing so far for the SEC QBs.
The SEC Network anchor unveiled his power rankings for the league’s quarterback situations via Twitter on Wednesday, and his choices may surprise some people.
The Austin Allen-led Razorbacks top his rankings as the best quarterback situation in the conference. Arkansas is followed by Alabama, which sports both Jalen Hurts and 5-star freshman Tua Tagovailoa.
Auburn, which struggled mightily at times at the position during the last two seasons, comes in at No. 3 with the arrival of transfer savior Jarrett Stidham.
Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm have Georgia as the top team from the SEC East and No. 4 overall. That puts them ahead of Jake Bentley and South Carolina. And in a somewhat controversial decision, he ranked Mississippi State No. 6 in spite of returning talented dual-threat starter Nick Fitzgerald.
Here’s a look at the Top 7:
Burns received some questions about his thought process behind the rankings, and he tried to answer some fans on Twitter. One of the more intriguing responses he gave involved LSU, which is not in his Top 7:
If SEC QB’s were stocks, Etling would be best “buy” on market. Priced low, but w/ Guice as RB & full offseason w/ OC Canada, big potential. https://t.co/K3yjVjBtTR

Of course, the LSU quarterbacks still have quite a bit to prove on the field before they could be considered for the top half of this list.
