The Atlanta Falcons ruined former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton’s perfect season in a 20-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Falcons’ owner Arthur Blank was so thrilled with the victory that he even mocked one of Newton’s go-to celebrations, the “dab.”

The Panthers have a first-round bye locked up, but Newton was still disgusted with how his team performed in Atlanta.
“We got our ass kicked today, and to a lot of degree, we deserved it especially the type of way we played,” Newton said after the game according to NFL.com’s Marc Sessler. “We got to play better. That’s unacceptable, especially at this time of the year.”
What’s even worse is that Newton was beaten by a former SEC foe, wide receiver Julio Jones. The former Alabama wideout had nine catches for 178 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers. His incredible touchdown was one of the best plays of the week and turned out to be the difference maker.

Jones got some revenge on Newton for Auburn’s 28-27 victory over Alabama in the 2010 Iron Bowl. Newton went on to win the national championship that season, but Jones already had won a championship the year before.
The Panthers are still one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl, while the Falcons will need to win next week plus get some help to make the playoffs.
