On Monday, a handful of SEC linebackers were named semifinalists for the Butkus Award, which is given annually to the best linebacker in college football.
Out of the 16 on the list, five are from the SEC: Alabama’s Ryan Anderson and Reuben Foster, LSU’s Kendall Beckwith, Florida’s Jarrad Davis and Vanderbilt’s Zach Cunningham.
Anderson and Foster have helped the Crimson Tide go 8-0, maintaining their hold on the top ranking in the nation. Anderson, a senior, has recorded 30 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Foster has 53 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Beckwith leads LSU with 69 tackles. He also has a sack for the Tigers.
Davis leads Florida with 55 tackles, also notching a pair of sacks.
Cunningham leads Vanderbilt with 85 tackles, 13.5 of which have been for a loss. He also has a forced fumble for the Commodores.
