To say Alabama made a dent in Florida recruit Vosean Joseph’s commitment to the Gators during his official visit would be an understatement.
Joseph, a three-star outside linebacker from Norland High School (Miami), told SEC Country that he feels like he’s a bigger priority at Alabama than Florida after making the trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., this weekend.
“Alabama hits me up every day,” Joseph said. “They ask me how I’m doing. Florida really only has one person that’s recruiting me right now and that’s (linebackers) coach Randy Shannon. Coach Shannon has been loyal since Day 1. Other than that, I just really have to look after my future.”
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder did have some good news for Florida fans, but it came with a caveat.
“If National Signing Day was today, the school that I would be picking is Florida because I still have to talk everything over with my family about Alabama.”
Joseph, who was accompanied on the visit by his girlfriend, Shakevia Brown, said the Crimson Tide staff not only made sure he had everything he needed, but also his girlfriend. That impressed Joseph the most from this weekend’s trip.
“They just kept in contact with me,” Joseph said. “They kept on asking me how I was doing. They made sure I got in my room safely. They took care of my girlfriend, too.”
Brown, his girlfriend, also told SEC Country that she would support his decision if he were to flip his commitment from Florida to Alabama.
“I would be happy with wherever he goes, but Alabama would be a really great choice,” Brown said. “I think it would be a great choice to show him how to prepare for his future career. I think he would become a better person if he were to go there for the next four years.”
So which school does the girlfriend think is the better option? She couldn’t answer that one directly.
“They are both really great schools,” Brown said. “They both have your best interests in mind when you get there. I think both schools would make you better. They’re both inspirational schools.”
Joseph will take an official visit to Florida next weekend. He says his final decision will be made on National Signing Day. Alabama and Florida will be the final two schools.
