GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Some more Alabama-Florida recruiting battles are brewing for 2017.
The Gators extended an offer Thursday to three-star defensive end Aaron Sterling, the second Alabama commit to get offered by UF in as many days. Florida offered four-star safety Xavier McKinney on Wednesday.
McKinney and Sterling, both from Georgia, are two of eight 2017 pledges for the Crimson Tide. UF is also pursing Alabama offensive tackle commit Alex Leatherwood, a four-star recruit out of Pensacola, Fla.
The SEC division champions went head-to-head for six prospects in the 2016 recruiting cycle.
The Tide flipped cornerback Aaron Robinson from Florida and landed linebacker Lynell Wilson on signing day, while the Gators stole junior college kicker Eddy Pineiro and fended off Alabama from three of their commits, linebacker Vosean Joseph and running backs Lamical Perine and Mark Thompson.
