Remember Tim Tebow’s famous promise after the Gators lost to Ole Miss?
Well it looks like Florida State is trying to use a similar tactic to motivate its players. But while Tebow’s promise came as an improvised speech, Jimbo Fisher and his staff had each Florida State player sign a statement that they would play harder.
According Bud Elliott of Tomahawk Nation, each player had sign a copy of the following statement:
“As of October 4th, 2016, I promise to give Florida State my all. There will be no more loafs and no lack of effort. I will trust the process. I will do everything in my power to prepare and play for this team. Every play, Every day I will bring effort, enthusiasm and pride in upholding the standards set forth by Florida State football and I will allow myself to be corrected and coached.”
The promise by Florida State pales in comparison to Tebow’s speech. You could say that the Seminoles did play harder, as they barely squeaked out a one point win over Miami. Per Elliot, the idea for “The Promise” was Fisher’s idea.
Florida State might want to leave the promises to people like Tebow, who can actually deliver on their promise. The Seminoles have already lost twice this year, including a 63-20 thrashing against Louisville.
