GAINESVILLE, Fla. — While it didn’t look like it three weeks ago, South Carolina vs. Florida now has major SEC East implications.
The Gamecocks (5-4, 3-4 SEC) travel to face the Gators (6-2, 4-2) at 12 p.m. ET Saturday. South Carolina’s three-game win streak forced the Gamecocks back into contention in the SEC East. While the scenario to send them to Atlanta is a bit convoluted, it starts with a win over the East-leading Gators.
Florida’s path north is much easier. Win the next two weeks, and Jim McElwain books his second-consecutive trip to Atlanta. But Florida’s quarterback situation is now as convoluted as South Carolina’s tie-breaker dream, with the Gators having to entertain the idea of burning the redshirt of one of its two true freshmen quarterbacks.
