The SEC announced its 2016 football Legends Class, which will honored during the SEC Weekend of Champions at events surrounding the SEC Football Championship Game in December.
Former Florida coach and quarterback Steve Spurrier headlines the list of players. Spurrier recently returned to the university as an ambassador of athletics. Spurrier played as quarterback for the Gators from 1963-66 and won the Heisman in his final season. He also coached the team to a national championship in 1996.
Former Auburn Quarterback Jason Campbell (2001-04) represents Auburn on the list. Campbell led the Tigers to an undefeated season and an SEC championship in 2004. The Tigers were left out of the BCS national championship game that year and went on to beat Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl.
Other members of the 2016 class include, Alabama’s Chris Samuels, Arkansas offensive lineman Shawn Andrews, Former Goargia Bulldog John Stinchcomb, Kentucky’s James Whalen, Robert Dugas (LSU), Kris Mangum (Ole Miss), Randy Thomas (Mississippi State), Justin Smith (Missouri), Travelle Wharton (South Carolina), Deon Grant (Tennessee), Ray Mickens (Texas A&M) and Chris Williams (Vanderbilt).
