Foster Farms Bowl: Indiana-Utah keys to the game
Bowling is what they do …
Utah is 12-1 in bowl games since 1999. That’s good. The Utes’ only loss was 26-3 to Boise State in the 2010 Las Vegas Bowl. Kyle Whittingham does an excellent job of getting Utah ready to play in the postseason — remember when the Utes beat Alabama 31-17 in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. Utah has four losses this season by a combined 19 points. A win would give the Utes at least 9 victories in each of their past three seasons.
But not what they usually do
The Hoosiers are making back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time since 1990-91. That’s a long time. With defensive coordinator Tom Allen now head coach and making his debut, expect the Hoosiers to throw everything they’ve got at Utah in this one to get win No. 7. Indiana gave Big Ten heavyweights Michigan (20-10 loss) and Ohio State (38-17 loss, but trailed by 7 in third quarter) a run for their money.
They’re coming after you
Indiana finished 20th in the country in tackles for loss this season with 7.4 per game and LB Tegray Scales led the way with 20.5 stops behind the line. Utah was even better, finishing 13th in TFL during the regular season with 7.8 per game. DE Hunter Dimick tallied 20 TFL with 14.5 sacks (No. 3 in the country).
