PLANTATION, Fla. — De’Andre Wilder is favoring five schools heading into the spring.
The four-star linebacker from Miami (Fla.) Carol City calls the hometown Hurricanes his leader, but he’s also favoring four SEC schools.
Prior to The Opening regional held on Sunday, Wilder listed his top five as Miami, Alabama, Florida, Auburn and LSU.
Here’s what he likes about each school:
Miami: “Mark Richt is trying to bring back the history of Miami. He just wants to me stay home and help carry on that tradition.”
Alabama: “They’ve got a good defensive scheme. They study other offenses really well and just outwork their opponents.”
Florida: “(Linebackers coach) Randy Shannon wants me inside to be the quarterback of the defense. He’s a great person and he’s close with my coach, Aubrey Hill (former UF player and assistant coach).”
Auburn: “They think I would be a good fit on their team and they want (me) to come up for a visit. I’m going to check them out this summer.”
LSU: “I like their defensive scheme, too. Their linebackers fly around to the ball and make plays.”
Of the five schools, Wilder has visited Alabama, Florida and Miami. He also took trips to Georgia and Tennessee last summer.
The 6-foot-2, 192-pounder plans to make his decision during his senior year. Wilder is ranked the nation’s No. 20 outside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite.
