To Colin Cowherd, the debate of who’s better between the Big Ten and SEC is no contest.
Speaking on his radio show, the Fox Sports personality propped up the Big Ten with glowing words to make the argument that the SEC isn’t the best conference in college football.
“The Big Ten has real formidable programs and coaches all align,” Cowherd said on the show. “Penn State lost a road game (against Southern Cal) on the last play. Penn State is a terrific football team that returns everybody. Michigan lost essentially a road game to a good team (Florida State). And I hate to break it to you, but Wisconsin is their fourth-best program — they beat LSU and won a bowl game.”

Bowl season doesn’t tell everything, but the Big Ten only went 3-7 in bowl play. Sure, there’s no argument against the Big Ten’s strength this season, given that Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Wisconsin all finished within the top 8 of the most recent College Football Playoff rankings.
But the Big Ten showed weaknesses during bowl season, and Cowherd seems to gloss over that fact. The Big Ten also doesn’t have anyone as strong as Alabama, which will play for another national title against Clemson on Monday in Tampa.
It will be interesting to see how the SEC and Big Ten compare next season.
