The SEC didn’t have a banner start to the season, but FOX Sports’ Stewart Mandel has included two teams from the league in his latest top 10.
No surprise, but Alabama is ranked first. The Crimson Tide were impressive in a 52-6 thrashing of USC, and they made a statement that they should be contenders again this fall.
Here’s what Mandel had to say about Alabama: “The defending champs took it to USC even worse than I anticipated. We’d heard buzz all offseason about freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts, but wow — what a debut.”
Meanwhile, Texas A&M came in at No. 10 in Mandel’s ranking. The Aggies knocked off UCLA at home, 31-24 in overtime. Many expect Texas A&M to be a contender in the SEC West this season, and the opening victory was a good way to start.
Here’s what Mandel had to say about Texas A&M: “The Aggies nearly blew a game they led 24-9 in the fourth quarter, but Myles Garrett and the defense thoroughly suffocated UCLA star Josh Rosen much of the afternoon.”
