The Alabama-Florida State matchup is being hyped as the game of the year, as the two powerhouses meet in Atlanta at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sept. 2.
The two teams are loaded with talent and depth that make most schools drool, and both programs are looking to be playing in the same stadium to end the season, as Atlanta hosts the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
According to Bud Elliott of Tomahawk Nation, the Crimson Tide are the only team in the SEC that can match up with the Seminoles.
“Physically I don’t think there’s a team in the SEC besides Alabama that’s all that close to Florida State,” Elliott said on The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday.
Those are big words considering the SEC prides itself on the physicality of its play, with programs such as LSU, Auburn, and Florida, along with Alabama, all finishing in the top seven in scoring defense last season.
Florida State can be physical, finishing No. 22 in total defense last season, allowing just 349.1 yards per game. That is last season, though, and this Seminoles team should be even better.
We will find out how much better early on how tough the Seminoles are, as there are hardly any teams in the nation that can, man-to-man, outdo Nick Saban’s teams in the trenches and on the field.
