The SEC will determine where to host the SEC Baseball Tournament in 2017 and beyond at the conference’s annual spring meetings next week, according to a source.
The SEC accepted bids from 12 different southern cities, including the current site in Hoover, Ala. Athletic directors will discuss the bids during the spring meetings, and an announcement should come near the end of the week.
Hoover Metropolitan Stadium has hosted the last 19 SEC tournaments, but is no longer home to the Birmingham Barons, leaving the park mostly empty during the spring. The SEC previously opened bids for the tournament in 2011, but the SEC decided to stick with Hoover, a mere 22-minute drive from conference’s offices in downtown Birmingham, for five more seasons.
Potential future sites include Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans and Orlando, according to reports.
The SEC tournament is currently underway in Hoover.
