Game Day Preview: What you need to know about Tennessee-UGA
For Tennessee to have any chance — and the odds are slim — at a trip to Atlanta for an SEC title, the Vols will have to fight, and beat, a tough UGA team at Neyland Stadium Saturday.
A loss would drop the Vols to 2-4 (0-3, SEC) with an off week before a trip to Alabama. A win for UGA would allow it to control its own destiny in hopes of reaching the SEC Championship game.
The Bulldogs are hoping to come off of a disappointing 38-10 loss to Alabama. The Vols have suffered three gut-wrenching losses in their first five games of the season, and the mood is sinking in Knoxville.
Here’s what you need to know about Saturday’s Tennessee-UGA game:
No. 19 Georgia Bulldogs at (4-1) at Tennessee Volunteers (2-3)
Kickoff: Saturday, Oct. 10, 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
Weather: 68 degrees, 40 percent of rain (weather.com)
Line: UGA -3
By the numbers
5 – UGA has won five straight in the series. However, in the last four games, the Bulldogs have won by a combined 18 points.
4 – The Vols have only won four of their last 16 games against UGA. That comes after Tennessee won nine in a row against the Bulldogs.
21-21-2 – The series record between the two teams.
Storylines to watch
Where are the wideouts?
Can the Vols better utilize their wide receivers? Tennessee’s much ballyhooed wideouts have had very little impact this season. It could be even more difficult to have success on the outside since receiver Alton “Pig” Howard was dismissed from the team this week.
Bounce back or downtrodden?
How will UGA respond from last week’s loss, especially its quarterbacks? During a beatdown by Alabama, UGA coaches gave sophomore Brice Ramsey a look in place of starter Greyson Lambert. Who takes control for the Bulldogs?
Both lines of scrimmages could be a struggle for the Vols
Tennessee has only been successful when quarterback Joshua Dobbs has been dominant on the ground. That could be tough to do Saturday since its offense has become so predictable. Also, how will the Vols put pressure on UGA’s quarterback with former starter Curt Maggitt out for the season? It could be a long day for the Vols.
Prediction: Georgia 24, Tennessee 13
