In the last recruiting cycle, Alabama pursued both of Florida’s running back commits to no avail.
UF is now trying to flip one of the Crimson Tide’s pledges at the position.
On Tuesday night, the Gators offered four-star recruit Cam Akers from Clinton, Miss. The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder is ranked the No. 3 running back and 36th prospect nationally.
Akers committed to the Crimson Tide seven months ago, but has visited other schools since then. He’s one of three backs in Alabama’s 2017 class, including the No. 1 overall prospect, Najee Harris of Antioch, Calif.
The Gators don’t have a running back yet for 2017, but they’re hoping to land an elite one such as Akers. Florida has offered four of Alabama’s eight commits.
