Gene Chizik delivered a strong message to fans of SEC West programs that have new coaches.
On Monday, the former Auburn coach and current SEC Network analyst appeared on Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly and spoke about all the recent coaching changes within the conference. Chizik said fans of schools within the SEC West with new coaches — Arkansas (Chad Morris), Texas A&M (Jimbo Fisher) and Mississippi State (Joe Moorhead) — should show patience next season and beyond.
Check out his message:
Chizik: One thing I would say to the fans of Arkansas or SEC West schools w/new coaches: You’re in the SEC West. The division is brutal. If you think you’re going to turn around in two years and win it, that’s not realistic. … Give them time. Let them do their jobs.

That sounds great in theory, but patience can be in short supply these days. Especially at a place such as Texas A&M, where Fisher isn’t being hired to “build” the Aggies. With a 10-year, $75 million deal, the expectation will be for him to produce championships quickly. Even Arkansas will demand more after the mediocrity of the Bret Bielema era.
Still, the SEC West is brutal with the Alabama beast there year after year. It will be fun to see how much of a “honeymoon period” these new coaches receive.
