Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is in the midst of an incredible season. Can anyone come close to rivaling his dominance?
As far as SEC players go, the only guy with even an outside shot is Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts, according to sportsbook.ag. The Crimson Tide freshman is having an impressive first year on campus, accounting for almost 2,100 total yards and 21 touchdowns in his first eight games. The books give him 45/1 odds of keeping the Heisman Trophy in Tuscaloosa.
But Jackson remains the overwhelming favorite. His chances increased to 1/3 after his fourth-quarter heroics helped Louisville avoid a tremendous upset bid by Virginia. Behind him are Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers (4/1 odds), followed by Jake Browning, JT Barrett and Dalvin Cook.
Hurts comes in tied with Washington State’s Luke Falk for seventh place on the Heisman leaderboard. With big games left on the table against Auburn, LSU and a likely SEC championship game appearance, No. 2 has more opportunities to build his resume. But it’s a steep hill to climb.
With LSU on a bye week, star tailback Leonard Fournette came off the board again. A strong performance against No. 1-ranked Alabama, the team that shuttered his Heisman campaign last season, would quickly revive his outside shot at some Heisman hardware.
