Tennessee’s first signee of National Signing Day is Marquez Callaway of Warner Robins (Ga.) High School.
The 6-foot-2, 177-pound athlete could play cornerback or receiver in college, but is expected to be a wideout for the Volunteers. Callaway caught 20 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns in 2015. He also carried the ball 10 times for 149 yards with a touchdown. As a junior in 2014, he had 33 catches for 359 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Callaway made 15 tackles in 2015 and intercepted three passes, including one returned for a touchdown. He was selected as a U.S. Army All-American and named to the Atlanta Journal Constitution All-State Class AAAAA First Team as a defensive back in 2015. He also 16 tackles and one interception as a junior.
Callaway selected the Vols over several scholarship offers. He committed to Tennessee on Jan. 21.
