After five official visits, Josiah Coatney is down to four SEC schools.
The junior college defensive end from Holmes C.C. (Mississippi) named Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida and Texas A&M as his finalists Thursday. He said the Crimson Tide and Rebels are tied for first place, followed by UF and A&M.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder visited all four schools in April, spending time with the head coaches at Alabama and Florida this past week.
“Florida, I went to the spring game and I talked to coach (Jim) McElwain a lot. Great coach,” Coatney told The State. “I got to see the program, see the campus. It was my first time being at Florida so it was new to me.
“Coach (Nick) Saban talked to me and said he wanted me to be a part of something great again. They think I can be a vital piece of the puzzle. He spent a lot of time with me.”
Coatney also took a trip to South Carolina in March, but the Gamecocks did not make the cut. He plans to announce his decision during the first week of May.
