ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit had plenty to say about the SEC on Saturday’s edition of College Gameday in Madison, Wis. ahead of the showdown between No. 24 Michigan and No. 5 Wisconsin.
Here are some of Herbie’s thoughts:
— While picking UAB as his “superdog” against Florida: “I’m going with 10.5 (point underdog) UAB. Not only can they keep it close, I can win the game outright. Florida is going with (redshirt freshman) Feleipe Franks. How interested is Florida in playing UAB? UAB is having a great year.”
— On Alabama’s injury situation: “It almost caught up to them against that Mississippi State attack. Nick Saban warned all of us that, ‘Hey, everybody keeps trying to crown us as the best team around, and we’ve got issues. We’ve got concerns.’
“Right now, they’re just holding on and it’s forcing them to play more nickel and more dime because they don’t have enough linebackers. Leave it to Nick Saban and Jeremy Pruitt to find answers.”
— Turned heads with this: “And there’s rumors that Jim Harbaugh may leave Michigan and go to the NFL, and what if Michigan opens up?”
— On Oklahoma: “I didn’t really get upset about Oklahoma being at 4. I thought personally they should have been higher with their resume and what they’ve been able to do and some of their big wins. Kirby Hocutt said their loss to Iowa State kind of weighted them down at 4. I thought Oklahoma could have been higher.”
— On Wisconsin-Michigan: “I think it’s low scoring. Regardless of the weather, it’s two great defenses. You might see defensive scores in this game. I think Michigan has been improving the last couple of weeks with Brandon Peters, but it’s in Madison. It’s hard to imagine Wisconsin losing at home.”
