Derrius Guice is undoubtedly one of the top players not just in the SEC, but in the country. And a large part of that is due to the fact that he is truly an athletic freak.
Guice has shown off a number of impressive workouts, such as him squatting 650 pounds. Guice used that athleticism to lead the Tigers in rushing last year, despite having Leonard Fournette on the team. He also led the SEC in rushing last year, despite only playing 12 games.
And Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman took notice of both Guice’s on-field talents and other-worldly athleticism and named Guice the top ‘freak’ in the SEC. Overall, 7 SEC players made Feldman’s top 40 list. Alabama’s Da’Ron Payne was the only other SEC player in the top 10. Penn State’s Saquon Barkley was named the top freak by Feldman.
Complete list of SEC players on Feldman’s freak list:
No. 6 Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
No. 8 Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama
No. 12 Braden Smith, OT, Auburn
No. 15 Tony Brown, DB, Alabama
No. 21 D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss
No. 24, Brandon Bryant, S, Mississippi State
No. 25 Ralph Webb, RB, Vanderbilt
Payne was one of two Alabama players to make the list. The mammoth defensive line prospect was one of six defensive line prospects in the top 10 list. SEC Country‘s Marq Burnett listed Payne as the No. 4 most important player in his top 25 countdown.
Only one player from the SEC East made Feldman’s list and that was Vanderbilt’s Webb.
