With Sam Ponder’s move to host ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, that left a hole among the network’s college football reporters.
Maria Taylor has been tabbed to replace Ponder’s reporting roles on College GameDay and Saturday night college football telecasts, Ryan Glasspiegel of The Big Lead reported.
The 2017 season will mark Taylor’s fourth with the company. She joined the SEC Network in 2014, and in 2016, she was part of the hosting team of that network’s traveling pregame show, SEC Nation, with Tim Tebow, Marcus Spears and Paul Finebaum.
Taylor’s role as SEC Nation host will be filled by Laura Rutledge, who also joined the SEC Network in 2014.
Taylor is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she played basketball and volleyball. She was a three-time All-SEC performer in volleyball for the Bulldogs and also was a member of the USA A2 National Volleyball team.
Ponder was named the new host of Sunday NFL Countdown in March, and she will be replacing network icon Chris Berman. Ponder spent five seasons working as part of College GameDay (2012-16), and also was the sideline reporter for the Saturday Night Football telecast in 2016.
