Mark Stoops: Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott should be a Heisman candidate
Dak Prescott put on a show Saturday night in Starkville against Kentucky, accounting for six touchdowns. The Mississippi State quarterback had three rushing and three passing scores, leading the Bulldogs to a 42-16 victory.
Kentucky coach Mark Stoops has always been impressed with Prescott, but on Monday he gave Mississippi State’s leader the ultimate praise.
“That’s a very good football team with an exceptional quarterback,” Stoops said. “How anybody’s not talking about that guy in a Heisman race — you’ve gotta have your head examined.”
Prescott’s senior season could be one for the history books. In eight games, Prescott has seven rushing touchdowns and 14 passing with only one interception. No other Bulldog has more than three rushing touchdowns, and Prescott is averaging 256 passing yards per game. To date, Prescott has 36 school records throughout his career.
Stoops knows that teams have to approach Prescott wisely. His type of game doesn’t allow for opponents to make mistakes.
“You can’t give a Heisman trophy candidate too many opportunities,” Stoops said. “You have to be smart.”
