This could be a first in the world of college football recruiting.
Mecole Hardman, Jr., the nation’s No. 1 athlete, will no longer silently commit to his school of choice. The 5-star from Elbert County High School (Elberton, Ga.) was planning on making a “silent” commitment in the upcoming weeks, but he announced on Twitter that those plans are nixed.
A silent commitment allows a recruit to tell a school he will be committing there but gives the recruit freedom to go on multiple visits without scaring off the school he will ultimately sign with.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder recently told SEC Country that Alabama is in his top three along with either UGA or Tennessee. He was supposed to take an official visit to Ole Miss this past weekend but canceled it at the last minute. He will be in Michigan this weekend for an official visit for its game against Ohio State.
He will make his public commitment on National Signing Day, which is Feb. 3.
