HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Lyndell Wilson posted a picture of himself wearing a Florida shirt and an Alabama hat during the SEC championship game this past weekend.
Wilson, the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker, said he got some hate for it. Particularly, both fanbases thought he was “trolling.”
The 5-star prospect has made it clear that Alabama was the school he has always wanted to play for, but he wants Florida fans to know that he has serious love for the Gators.
“Florida is my No. 1 for a reason,” Wilson told SEC Country. “I feel like that’s a place where I can see myself playing for the next three to four years. That’s why they are my No. 1. I feel comfortable when I go down there. I’m comfortable with all of the coaches. I’m building a relationship with them now.”
Despite the fact that Florida is his current leader, Wilson believes that Alabama is the top team in the sport.
“’Bama is still one of those dream schools I grew up dreaming about playing football for,” Wilson said. “I feel like they still have the best program in college football.”
So if he believes that Alabama is the best program in college football, why wouldn’t he have the Crimson Tide as his leader?
“I’m not saying a lot of people prefer me to go to Alabama, but when I did take an out-of-state visit, I felt more at home. I don’t want to be one of those guys that stay in-state. When I did take my visit to Florida, it was a great atmosphere, and it felt like another home to me.”
Wilson is rated as the nation’s No. 13 prospect.
