In the end, Devin White chose to stay close to home.
White committed to LSU over SEC West rivals Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas, as well as Florida State, the four-star athlete announced Friday at North Webster High School (Springhill, La.).
The 6-foot, 258-pound White could play either running back or linebacker at the next level.
White took unofficial visits to Florida State, Alabama and LSU twice, and made official visits to Florida State on Oct. 10, Arkansas on Dec. 4 and LSU on Dec. 11.
He had scheduled official visits to both Alabama and Ole Miss in January, but those plans got derailed by White’s intention to enroll at his college this month.
LSU recruited White for his backfield prowess, and White is the only running back in the Tigers’ 2016 recruiting class.
After making the short trip to Baton Rouge, La. in December, White said LSU’s coaching staff appealed to what he was looking for in a school.
“For LSU to really show me the family side of it all, that was an awesome recruiting job, especially for me since I am so big on family. They did it right,” White said.
White is rated as the nation’s No. 5 athlete and Louisiana’s No. 7 prospect, per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
