People like to poke fun at the NCAA for a number of reasons, so we can probably just add this one to the list.
In anticipation of next week’s SEC Media Days (which SEC Country will be covering wire-to-wire, by the way), NCAA.com produced a post on which coaches will appear at the podium in Hoover, Ala., on which days. Seems simple enough.
Except there were a few of glaring and unfortunate mistakes on the list of SEC head coaches.
1. Kentucky coach Mark Stoops, who is entering his fifth season with the Wildcats, was listed as Bob Stoops. Now, that’s probably the 1,567,679th time Mark has been mistakenly identified as his championship-winning brother, who shocked the college football world by retiring from his coaching job at Oklahoma this offseason. But the NCAA article did not stop there.
2. Missouri coach Barry Odom also was named Bob in this article, which referenced him as “Bob Odom.”
3. In an easier-to-understand mistake, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema is referred to as “Brett” Bielema.
Check it out:
For the record, you can catch both Mark Stoops and Barry Odom at the podium on Wednesday, July 12. (Not Thursday, July 13, which the release also references as July 12.)
Oh, and for all those wiseguys out there, there’s probably a joke to be made about the NCAA mishandling the names of Mark Stoops and Barry Odom but nailing the name of Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze. But we’re going to leave you guys to your own devices on that one.
