The NCAA’s Division I Council is proposing changes that could alter the landscape of college football, particularly recruiting.
The changes include an early signing period, which would be two 72-hour windows, one on the last Wednesday in June and another in mid-December. The signing period proposal would be effective for the 2017-18 recruiting year.
In addition, the Division I Football Oversight Committee recommended the addition of an assistant coach to staffs. That would be the allowable number to 10 coaches for Football Bowl Subdivision staffs. There is also a proposal to limit the number of offseason camps to 10 days for teams.
The proposals will be considered in January by the Division I Board of Directors and would take effect Aug. 1, if approved.
