New Mexico Bowl 2017 preview for Colorado State-Marshall

Both teams enter with 7-5 records. Colorado State, which gave Bobo a contract extension for his work with the Rams on Thursday, has one of the top offenses in the country. The Rams rank 10th in total offense and average 33.8 points per game. The Rams were also unlucky to finish 7-5, as they lost close games to Boise State and Wyoming.

On offense, the Rams are led by quarterback Nick Stevens. The Colorado State quarterback threw for 3,479 yards and 27 touchdowns during the regular season. Running back Dayln Dawkins rushed for 1,349 yards and wide receiver Michael Gallup caught 94 passes for 1,345 yards.

Marshall meanwhile had one of the best defenses in the country, ranking in the top 20 in scoring defense and rushing defense. It should be an interesting contest that both teams best units matchup against each other. Colorado State’s defense is slightly better than Marshall’s offense but neither are all that great.

The Rams are the better team and if they jump out to an early lead, this game could get ugly. But motivation could be a factor for the Rams, given that they had much higher expectations for this game.

Prediction: Colorado State 35, Marshall 17
