The past five days won’t go down as the best in history for SEC football.
Among the lowlights:
- Tennessee needed overtime to beat Appalachian State from the Sun Belt Conference.
- Fifth-ranked LSU lost to unranked Wisconsin.
- South Alabama knocked off Mississippi State when a last-second Bulldog field goal attempt misfired.
- Florida struggled against a UMass team that owns eight total victories in the past four seasons.
No. 11 Ole Miss capped off the weekend with a disappointing second half against No. 4 FSU that resulted in a loss.
That’s not all: Auburn’s offense was bizarre in the loss to No. 2 Clemson, Arkansas survived Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss beat Kentucky.
What does it all mean? For starters, it looks like the gap between No. 1 Alabama and everyone else in the league is wider than anyone expected after the first week of games.
So yes, Alabama is No. 1 in this week’s SEC Country Power Rankings. The Crimson Tide hauled in all the first-place votes.
